Paul Serusier

Paul Serusier

Paul Serusier was a French painter associated with the Pont-Aven School and Post-Impressionism. He is best known for his role in the founding of the group known as Les Nabis. In 1888, Serusier traveled to Pont-Aven, where he met Paul Gauguin. Gauguin encouraged Serusier to experiment with bold colors and simplified forms, which became the hallmark of Serusier's style. His famous work, 'The Talisman,' painted during this time, exemplified the Nabis' synthesis of Gauguin’s synthetism and the Symbolist movement. This revolutionary approach to painting made Paul Serusier and Les Nabis famous in the late 19th century.
